Mail Services – Clerk
Is responsible for a combination of tasks in an APO/JMMT to include accepting and inspecting items for mailing per DoD Postal Manual 4525.6-M, IMM, DMM, ASM, POM, the Postal Operations Division and United States Postal Service and Military Postal Service Agency regulations. Physically inspects parcels brought to the APOs by the patrons and ensures parcels are 100% free of non-mailable matter. Advises customers of postal and custom requirements and determines proper packaging adequacy for acceptance. Prepares postal service forms and verifies customs forms. Is responsible for security of postal facilities and the mail. Places mail in pouches or trays. Prepares and affixes routing labels for mail items per the Consolidated Air Massing and Labeling Scheme (CAMALS). Receives incoming mail from military and commercial carriers and compares manifest against mail for proper receipt. Sorts incoming mail according to the established mail sorting schemes. Provides locator and directory service utilizing the Theater Unit Locator List and DA 3955 (Change of Address) for mail requiring forwarding and redirect. Provides customer service to military and civilian mail clerks during mail call operations. Sorts and scans accountable mail and obtains signatures for receipt during unit mail call pick up. Tracks mail transit times using Transit Time Information Standard System for Military Mail (TTISSMM). Is required to provide daily pickup of mail from USPS mail drop boxes.
Must be a US Citizen (SOW 22.7.1. and 22.10.1.)
Previous postal experience (military or USPS) preferred
Must have proficient verbal communication skills
Must have excellent customer service skills
Must have the ability to successfully complete the General Postal Course (GPA of 85 is cut off)
The ability to obtain an AMPS/AKO account
(SOW 22.11.6) All personnel must be designated in writing, to have a valid driver’s license, and no record of
Felony convictions for theft, criminal or moral crimes
Disciplinary actions for lying, cheating or stealing
Psychiatric disorder, alcoholism, or drug abuse, unless a medical evaluation determines the condition no longer exists
Relief from postal duties
Permanent physical restrictions prohibiting prolonged standing, walking or lifting up to 70 lbs
Must be fluent in English
Must possess passport book (not passport card) with at least 12 months of remaining validity AND with at least 6 blank visa/stamp pages remaining
Must possess driver’s license with at least 6 months of remaining validity
