SENIOR DESIGNER – MECHANICAL
Under general supervision, independently applies advanced engineering techniques, makes decisions on engineering problems and methods, and represents the organization in conferences to resolve important questions or to negotiate with key engineers and officials of other organizations. Provides technical guidance to designers and less experienced engineers and is consulted extensively by associates and others with a high degree of reliance placed on scientific interpretations and advice. Job role is responsible for a measurable asset such as an assigned staff and budget. Skills are typically acquired through an undergraduate degree in Engineering and a minimum of 7 years related experience, with average experience ranging from 10
Develop complete designs of new mechanical equipment, subassemblies, and components
Translate already existing film casting, coating, and web handling lines into 3D CAD models and drawings
Prepare drawings from conceptual ideas and requirements, makes layout drawings of machines and sub-components of machines
Mange quality of deliverables and coordinates the work as mechanical lead designer / modelers / drafters in the design team
Provide advanced technical direction to other mechanical engineers, designers, and modelers on a project
Coordinates the input of supplier design data into the overall project design
Coordinates additional discipline requirements into the design of equipment
Supports developing, detailed mechanical equipment installation and operation instructions
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with 10 years industrial experience or High School degree with 15 years industrial experience
Minimum of 5 years of 2D (AutoCAD) & 3D (SolidWorks, MicroStation) product design/drafting / modeling experience required
Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:
Electromechanical system design
Machine design and specification
Film casting and coating lines (eg, die coating, tenter frames, floatation dryers)
Web handling systems (winders, unwinders, slitters, web conveyance systems, roll handling systems)
Chemical processes and processing equipment
Mechanical drive systems
Must be able to work on multiple projects under time restrictions in a fast-paced environment.
Must be able to guide and lead a team of mechanical designer /drafters
The ability to interface with site engineers to generate, define, and develop mechanical models and drawings of existing and new equipment
Practical engineering expertise with demonstrated skill in solving complex technical problems
Computer modeling capabilities in the fields of stress analysis, fluid dynamics or heat transfer is a plus
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Interpersonal, leadership, and networking skills
