Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Manager (Contingency Hire)


The Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Manager’s primary duty and responsibility is to ensure

that all KBR operations and responsibilities are in compliance with applicable environmental and safety requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, implementation of the host command Environmental Management System (EMS); oil and hazardous substance spill prevention, control, countermeasures and cleanup; hazardous material minimization, handling and storage; hazardous waste reduction, collection, storage, and disposal.

In addition responsibilities include proper management of operation of potable fresh water resources; industrial and wastewater treatment; proper management and operation of solid waste collection, segregation for recycling, and proper disposal; and management of mission critical and non-use of non-mission critical ozone-depleting substances.

The ES&H shall also meet KBR’s safety and health

program for the contract.

The ES&H shall meet the requirements of the Air Force Occupational Safety and Health (AFOSH), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), all host nation ES&H requirements and applicable Air Force safety standards.

The ES&H or an equally-qualified Designated Representative/alternate shall be on-site at all times when work is being performed to implement and administer the KBR's safety program and government-accepted Accident Prevention Plan.

The role of the ES&H is the proactive identification of existing and predictable hazards in the working environment or working conditions that are dangerous to personnel and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.

Administrative duties include development of pertinent KBR SOPs and contingency plans; and conducting/documenting required inspections and training. Additionally, the Specialist shall serve as the central point of contact with the Government listing of areas needing substantial compliance with Curacao project regulations, and applicable U.S. Environmental, Safety and Health Standards.



Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Chemistry based on a four-year course of study from a U.S. or U.K. accredited college or university or equivalent institution.

In addition to the formal education requirement, successful completion of the OSHA 30-hour construction safety class or equivalent within the last five (5) years and an average of at least 24 hours of safety training per year for the past five (5) years.

OR seven (7) to fourteen (14) years of experience in ES&H.


HAZWOPER 8-Hour Training Course; Certified Safety Professional (CSP) through the Board of certified Safety Professionals; Certification in EM 385-1 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Contractor Safety and Health Requirements; Certified in Lead and Asbestos detection, Hearing and Respirator qualified; and understanding of the OSHA Act.


The ES&H Manager shall have at least five (5) years of supervisory/managerial roles preparing and enforcing safety programs on contracts of similar size and complexity. Further experience includes being trained and qualified to conduct mishap Investigations per AFI 91-202 or equivalent methodology and five (5) years’

experience as an Environmental Protection Specialist/Engineer, or work in a closely related field.

ABILITIES: The ES&H shall maintain competency IAW OSHA requirements.

Furthermore, the candidate must be a self-starter capable of working in a fast paced multi-discipline team environment with the ability to manage competing priorities to achieve team goals.

Proven management skills to include effective planning, organizing, directing and controlling with strong decision making capabilities. Excellent analytical skills – data driven, fact based, root cause focused. Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills to lead a team to consensus.

Understanding of litigation and claims processes and experience with legal communities.

Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and listening.

Ability to interact with staff at all levels from craft persons to senior executives.

Knowledge base to successfully diagnosis issues that cover multiple areas of interaction.


Must have a SECRET Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain one

Fluent in English language

Must possess passport book (not passport card) with at least 12 months of remaining validity AND with at least 4 blank visa/stamp pages remaining

Must possess driver’s license with at least 6 months of remaining validity
