We are seeking a Dimensional Metrology calibration technician experienced in inspection, measuring, and test equipment (IM&TE) calibration and repair. Responsibilities include:

Calibrates a full range of gages and instruments from standard gages, with written instructions (such as department procedures, manufacturing specifications, industry and military specifications) to complex fixtures which require set-ups where no procedures have been established to be used for dimensional measurements.

Consistently works to very close tolerances 10 times closer than precision layout of parts.

Interprets complicated blueprints and computing dimensions to lay out a complex gage or fixture where no datums have been established.

Maintains a record system of the calibration status of each gage or instrument calibrated.

Calibrates fixtures which require set-ups where no procedures have been established.

Devices setups and makes layouts required to inspect and calibrate instruments, gages or fixtures under inspection.

Involves the measurement of compound angles, irregular contours and multiple planes which are not at right angles or parallel.

Independently tests, calibrates, and repairs mechanical and dimensional equipment for conformance to established standards, and assists in formulating calibration standards.

Identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms.

Provides training to apprentice technicians on metrology principle, resolving technical problems.

Calibrates standard gages and instruments to assure accuracy and continued usability.

Plans sequence of testing and calibration procedures for instruments and equipment, according to blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and other specifications.

Sets up standard and special purpose laboratory equipment to test, evaluate, and calibrate other instruments and test equipment.

Disassembles instruments and equipment, using hand tools, and inspects components for defects.

Measures parts for conformity with specifications, using micrometers, calipers, and other precision instruments.

Reassembles and calibrates instruments and equipment.

Maintains equipment and work area in a clean and orderly manner.

Resolves group and customer issues, seeks to improve the overall productivity of the department, anticipates problems and initiates appropriate actions to eliminate them.

Assists customers to define technical requirements to meet their objective.

Qualifications:

Two years technical training plus one-two years of related experience. In lieu of technical training, four years of related experience is required.

Additional Qualifications:

PMEL trained or equivalent highly preferred.

Experience in inspection, measuring, and test equipment (IM&TE) calibration and repair.

Must be capable of interpreting complicated blueprints and computing dimensions to lay out a complex gage or fixture where no datums have been established.

Experience in inspection, measuring and test equipment (IM&TE) calibration and repair.

Proficient at understanding and writing reports and work instructions.

CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) trained and certified preferred.
