The opportunity

KBR’s South Australian business is experiencing continuing success in urban and defence infrastructure projects and is expanding its civil engineering team.

The Principal Civil Engineer position is a key position within an established team leading to significant flexibility in the candidate’s background experience.

Applications are sought from engineers with experience and knowledge derived from any or all of urban land development, drainage, road construction, bulk earthworks, rail infrastructure, car parks, WSUD, building construction or sporting facilities.

Projects are ongoing with Local Government, State and Federal Government clients.

Demonstrated experience in project management and proposal development is expected as the role requires the ability to lead and manage more junior engineers in these activities.

KBR expects that the successful applicant will have achieved Chartered Engineer/CEng/RPEQ status, or as a minimum be able to achieve this within six months.

Role Overview

This role has a number of dimensions

including, working independently or at the head of small teams to complete the planning, design and execution of assigned projects that meet or exceed client expectations, within the agreed budget, and are delivered on or ahead of schedule and with minimal risk to the health and safety of people and the environment.

Manage the planning, organising, and coordinates the

delivery and execution of civil engineering components of projects in accordance with KBR established policies, procedures and requirements.

Prepare technically sound, well written and easily understood proposals, reports, technical specifications and calculations.

Undertake reviews and verification of engineering calculations, reports and deliverables completed by others within the team.

Supervise project staff and review deliverables to ensure compliance with technical and quality assurance standards.

Provide direction, mentoring and support to bid teams and project staff.

Develop and maintain client relationships and industry knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

Project manager for civil discipline projects for local government, state government, developers and builders.

Maintain contact and communication with the client and focuses on providing client satisfaction where leading a civil infrastructure projects.

Demonstrate a strong understanding of client needs and achieve a high level of satisfaction.

Supervise and ensures the well-being of personnel assigned to the project through peer and/or subordinate leaders or direct management.

Have a strong commitment to meeting the undertakings of KBR HSE and Quality Policies

Establish a substantial knowledge of KBR’s national skill base and local external labour and skill base through networking and participation in industry functions and groups.


Bachelor of Engineering (Civil)

Knowledge and experience working with Australian Standards and the NCC/BCA

Demonstrated experience working on buildings civil projects and delivery of civil infrastructure packages (drainage design, site levels and grading and pavement design)

Demonstrated ability to lead a design team of civil engineers and designers to deliver the civil discipline

Strong practical knowledge of and commitment to health and safety

Working knowledge of commercial arrangements and relationships

CPEng, RPEQ, CEng (UK) or equivalent engineering competency

Experience in team/discipline management
