Position Title:

Tax Manager, Sales and Use Tax

Position Description

KBR is seeking a Tax Manager to manage the delivery of functional objectives by providing leadership and direction to team members; will initiate and keeps track of tax reports, returns, and other information connected to taxes. The Tax Manager will ensure compliance with laws, regulations, audit management, tax planning, and accounting for sale/use tax. Job duties will include but not be limited to the following:


Oversee filing sales/use tax returns

Review returns for accuracy and completeness

Manage and supervise the implementation of return preparation and review processes, as well as the training of employees on those processes

Participate in implementing policies and processes for transaction processors and procurement personnel to facilitate their compliance with tax laws

Audit Management

Manage sales/use tax audits, including verbal and written correspondence with auditors, provision of information to auditors, and defense of exceptions taken to audit findings

Research significant issues

Research overpayments and request refunds/credits from state and local tax jurisdictions

Tax Planning

Review significant projects / transactions to determine the most beneficial way to structure those projects / transactions from a tax-compliance and a tax-minimization standpoint, while also balancing other business considerations

Advise personnel throughout the company as to how sales/use tax will affect their activities and what needs to be done in order to stay in compliance.

Coordinate any necessary training to educate personnel outside the tax field in matters of sales/use tax

Work with clients, vendors, etc. to come to agreement on how sales/use taxes will affect projects and transactions and the best processes through which to manage sales/use tax compliance


Assist with quarterly ASC 450 analysis, including evaluation and updating of ongoing issues and identification and measurement of new issues

Determine any necessary journal entries on a monthly/quarterly/annual basis

Oversee/assist with/perform monthly reconciliations of the sales/use tax liability accounts



Bachelor’s Degree required plus a minimum of 6–9 years relative experience

CMI or CPA preferred

Proficient in Microsoft Office Products

SAP and JDE experience preferred

Good written and verbal communication skills
